The English Premier League (EPL) is a professional European football league and is the most popular football competition in the world.

The top 20 teams on the English Football pyramid play off against each other in a season spanning from August to May. Teams playing each other twice in a double round-robin format and are awarded three points for a win, one for a draw and zero for a loss.

The team with the most points or, in the event of a draw, the greatest goal differential, is awarded the title at the end of each season. The three sides with the lowest points score are relegated to the Championship, while the top three Championship clubs are promoted and take their place the following season.

Manchester City are the reigning champions, having secured the 2020-21 by 12 points – their third title in four seasons and fifth overall. Manchester United hold the record for the most Premier League titles with 13, although they’ve failed to win one since the retirement of manager Sir Alex Ferguson in 2013.

Sheffield United, West Bromwich Albion and Fulham were relegated at the conclusion of last season. Brentford, Norwich City and Watford are the newly-promoted sides.
